Their examination of TIM calculations, particularly concerning flight emissions, revealed that substantial CO2e reductions could be achieved by focusing on the most carbon-intensive routes. Notably, while business travelers constitute merely 12% of airline passengers globally, they are accountable for approximately 30% of emissions within Europe. The analysis underscored long-haul flights as a critical area for potential improvements. TIM identified lower-emission same-day flight alternatives for two-thirds of the routes analyzed, including commonly traveled paths such as Dallas to London and Dallas to Frankfurt, highlighting the opportunity for emission reductions of up to 10%. The insights gleaned from this project will assist Sabre in establishing realistic emissions reduction targets and enhancing travel efficiency. Furthermore, Sabre plans to integrate these capabilities into its agency and corporate booking systems, thereby providing customers with more precise emissions estimates reflecting their past travel activities. Last year, Sabre’s corporate online booking tool, GetThere, incorporated TIM emissions data, which now allows corporate travel bookers, including Sabre employees, to access accurate carbon estimates during the flight booking process.
